Diagnosis

- Imaging studies such as ultrasound if needed to see what is inside the lump
- Biopsy or removal of the lump for lab testing if there is concern for infection or cancer
Treatment
Treatment depends on the cause of the bump:
- Observation if the lump is small, painless, and harmless
- Antibiotics if it is due to infection
- Minor office procedure to drain or remove a cyst or abscess
